Tributes Pour In for the Talented Footballer After His Untimely Death
George Baldock has died aged 31. The former Sheffield United and Greek international had represented his country in 12 matches before retiring from football due to ill health in June 2015. Their lifeless bodies were discovered; his in the swimming pool of his residence in Glyfada, southern Athens the reason still unknown. In the process of resuscitation, the emergency services could not make the man come back to life.
Baldock who signed for Panathinaikos during the summer had also begun in August and had been a Sheffield United player for seven years. He was omitted from the Greece team for Thursday’s Nations League match against England but had featured in Panathinaikos’ goalless draw against Olympiakos only four days before his death.
Many clubs and other organizations in the football world have sent in their condolences. Sheffield United and was saddened by the loss of their ex-player who was instrumental in the team’s promotion to the Premier League last season. Gus Poyet later persuaded him to represent Greece where he also earned an international call up for the country of his ancestors in 2022.
MK Dons, the team he played with and was teammates with his brother Sam Baldock said they were ‘deeply saddened’ by his death and further ion many remarked how professional and committed he was. Sam, presently a coach at Brighton, was offered condolences from the football fraternity.
The death of Baldock has some effect on teammates, clubs, and fans, as most people will have some memory of him as a player. He departs with having given his best and having loved the game more than most do.
